For ages Altesino has been known for its fantastic vineyard holdings within Montalcino, which altogether produce a velvety-rich, full-bodied wine. The 21 hectares that make up this wine are from the Altesino, Castelnuovo dell'Abate, Macina, and Pianezzine vineyards, much of which sit on tufaceous limestone soils and Alberese rock, imparting freshness and impressive balance! Lifted aromatics of violet, wildberries, tobacco, and chocolate maintain this Brunello's elegance in the warm 2015 vintage.
Jeb Dunnuck: 96 Points
The 2021 Brunello Di Montalcino Montosoli pours a deeper ruby hue and opens with compact aromatics of black raspberries, tea leaf, cocoa, rosemary, and crushed stone. Medium to full-bodied, it has a firm core of tannins and a refreshing spine of acidity that keeps everything lifted and precise. It’s still tightly wound and will benefit from another couple of years in bottle, then drink beautifully for 15 years or more. Drink 2028-2045.
James Suckling: 95 Points
A lively Brunello with aromas of plums, ripe cherries, cedar and teak that follow through to a medium body with fine tannins and a crisp finish. Crunchy and linear. Lovely energy at the end.
Wine Advocate: 94 Points
The Altesino 2021 Brunello di Montalcino was a little shy when I tasted it, but knowing the track record of this estate, I have no doubt that the wine will flesh out with bottle age. Give it a year or two more. The bouquet offers blackcurrant and wild berry with a dark mineral note and grilled herb. Pressed violet also rises to the top of the wine, which is firmly structured and very lively in terms of mouthfeel. This popular release of 110,000 bottles ages in Slavonian oak casks only.
Vinous Media: 93 Points
The 2021 Brunello di Montalcino mixes violet and lavender tones before settling on stemmed wild strawberries. It is remarkably fresh and fruit-forward, with a core of tantalizing acidity elevating depths of ripe red and blue fruits. This finishes with staining length and edgy tannins, leaving a raspberry concentration and nuances of autumnal spice.
