A Small Appellation, A Complete Wine
Though it appears vast, just 136 hectares are planted. Within that lies a patchwork of lieux-dits, each contributing something essential. At Domaine Jean-Louis Chave, every parcel is vinified separately and blended to reflect the whole hill. As Jean-Louis says, he makes “Hermitage, not Chave.”
Power and Grace in Red and White
The whites deliver richness without weight, built to age and gain nuance over decades. The reds, anchored by Syrah, are among the most complete and age-worthy wines in the world, combining structure, depth, and unmistakable site expression.
Jeb Dunnuck: 98 Points
Just bottled but certainly not showing any worse for it, the 2023 Hermitage Blanc offers up gorgeous aromatics of quince, honeyed white flowers, and blanched almond on the nose. It's medium to full-bodied, round, incredibly pure, and seamless on the palate, with a supple, vibrant texture and a gorgeous finish. This is an absolute lights-out Hermitage Blanc that I wish every reader could taste. I love it even today, yet it's going to cruise in cold cellars for at least two decades. Drink 2026-2046.
Vinous Media: 96 Points
The 2023 L'Hermitage Blanc shines with immaculate balance and harmony, smoothing over the summer heatwave of the growing season without any hint of flamboyance. Instead, it delivers outstanding freshness and verve, with pronounced notes of honeysuckle, fresh pear, yellow apple, wet stone and delicate chamomile. Broad-shouldered, concentrated and sapid, the 2023 is such a gorgeous and masterfully assembled white L'Hermitage.
