History of a young winery
Trediberri was founded in 2007 by Nicola and Federico Oberto together with Vladimiro Rambaldi, marking the arrival of a fresh yet deeply rooted voice in Barolo. The trio purchased five hectares in Berri, a small subzone on the western edge of La Morra, with a vision to craft wines that express the elegance and authenticity of their home region. Nicola, the energetic face of the estate, represents a new generation of Barolo producers, blending modern sensitivity with respect for tradition, while his father, Federico—former cellar master at Renato Ratti—brings decades of experience. Their first commercial vintage debuted in 2011, and from the start, the estate's wines have stood out.
What Makes the vineyard unique?
The Berri Cru had nearly vanished from Barolo’s viticultural map after World War II, as families abandoned the rugged hills for urban work. When the Trediberri partners arrived, they recognized the latent promise in its cool, river-influenced microclimate, limestone-rich soils, and ideal southwest exposure. Their efforts restored this forgotten parcel, proving that its combination of freshness and structure could yield Nebbiolo of remarkable clarity and refinement.
After Harvest
In the cellar, Trediberri follows a classical Piedmontese regimen—extended macerations in concrete and long aging in large Slavonian oak botti—crafted without fixed recipes, allowing each vintage to dictate its own path. The 2021 Barolo exemplifies this philosophy: elegant yet energetic, laced with red cherry, rose, and spice, its tannins fine-grained and its finish lifted and pure.
James Suckling: 95 Points
This is an aromatically bright Barolo, featuring aromas of dried flowers, mushrooms, earth and sliced strawberries. It is medium- to full-bodied, showing a very refined profile of vibrant fruit and a touch of concentration. The wine is precise and well knitted. It originates from Berri, in the highest part of La Morra. It is already a joy to taste, but better to wait until 2026.

Nicola and Stefania Oberto are slowly putting Berri on the map. Silky, aromatic and creamy on the palate, the 2021 Barolo Berri is striking in its beauty. Crushed flowers, sweet red-toned fruit, chalk, mint and white pepper all meld together effortlessly. Silky, polished tannins frame the finish. The 2021 doesn't have the immediacy of the 2020, but it may catch up to it one day because of its energy. It is a superb young Barolo—that much is clear. About 30% of wine saw submerged cap maceration. Time in cask was 25 months.

From the Cru in the northwest, the 2021 Barolo Berri is a medium ruby color and has a fantastic nose with a spicy and attractive profile of cranberries, clove, roses, and dusty, brushy earth. Medium-bodied, it’s even on the palate, with even, ripe acidity, chalky tannins, and a lovely purity, and it stays light on its feet, with a floating feel. I expect this to age very well over the coming 20 years, but it’s hard to resist now. (AF)
