Crafted entirely from Tempranillo grown in the heart of Rioja Alta, the Valenciso Reserva is a unique wine that straddles traditional influences with modern ones. Sourced from estate vineyards perched between 480 and 610 meters, the vines thrive in clay-limestone soils that preserve freshness and finesse. After fermentation, the wine spends 17 months aging in fine French oak barrels, followed by an extended two-year rest in concrete tanks before bottling—allowing its structure to soften and its character to harmonize. The long aging before release nods to the traditional styles of Rioja we love. The use of French oak however, is a decidedly modern technique. The result is a wine that layers aromas of red fruit and earth, dried herbs, and subtle spice, carried by a graceful palate and long, savory finish. Pair this with lamb chops grilled over grape vine cuttings. It’s a local dish called “Chuletillas al Sarmiento” and it can be served with roasted peppers and or potatoes.
