The sale of Araujo Estate and the iconic Eisele Vineyard in 2013 freed the Araujo family to explore new possibilities, culminating in the enviably-staffed knockout success, Accendo Cellars. Rather than work exclusively with estate fruit (as in Araujo Estate), the grapes of Accendo's wines are sourced from several of Napa Valley's finest vineyards, recalling an earlier era in the Valley. With familiar names on payroll like Steve Matthiasson, Francoise Peschon, and Michel Rolland, Accendo Cellars promises the same level of commitment and meticulous attention to detail that characterizes all the Araujo family does.
Accendo's Cabernet sports a spot each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, and the wine's complexity immediately reveals itself. Delicious upon release, the 2015 will flourish for years to come.
Wine Advocate: 98 Points
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is blended of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot and was bottled in August 2018. Deep garnet-purple colored, it bursts out of the glass with exotic spice notes of star anise, fenugreek and cumin seed over a core of blackberry pie, wild blueberries and warm cassis with hints of kirsch, cigar box and mocha plus a waft of smoked meats. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is jam-packed with vibrant black, blue and red fruits plus tons of spicy sparks, framed by wonderfully ripe, fine-grained tannins and beautiful freshness, finishing long and perfumed. James Suckling: 97 Points
This is very tight and precise with dark berries, dark chocolate, spice and hints of hazelnuts. Full body and a solid center palate. Lots of sage, rosemary, and lavender. Beautiful balance. Fine finish. Very approachable now, but better after 2022
Antonio Galloni: 97 Points
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon feels like it hasn't developed much over the last year, and I see that as a positive. Silky, nuanced and still very vibrant, the 2016 is just as inspiring as it was when I tasted it last year. Fresh, floral and medium in body, with terrific depth, the 2016 is positively stellar. Bright floral and spice notes add freshness to this super-expressive, sublime Cabernet Sauvignon from Accendo.
Wine Spectator: 96 Points
Richly layered, with ripe and caressing cassis, plum preserves, boysenberry reduction and açaí berry fruit flavors. There's a chocolate backdrop and alluring toast notes throughout, with a subtle graphite edge on the very fine-grained finish to keep this red honest. A beautiful display of fruit and very Oakville in style. *Highly Recommended* (JM)
