The Road That Led Tadeo Borchardt Here
The name Camino—Spanish for “road” or “journey”—is more than a label; it is a literal distillation of winemaker Tadeo Borchardt’s path to making wine under his own name. His journey began far from vineyards, in an Arizona classroom, before a growing fascination with wine led him from restaurant work in Scottsdale to a bold move to Sonoma County in 2002. From there, Tadeo honed his craft at Copain, expanded his perspective working harvests in New Zealand at Craggy Range, and deepened his philosophy through extensive travel in France and Italy. Since 2004, he has been a steady force at Neyers Vineyards in Napa Valley, eventually assuming head winemaking duties. After fifteen years of making wine for others, Camino represents the moment where experience, patience, and personal vision converge. A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure of tasting these beautiful wines alongside Tadeo in the shop.
The en Foule bottling offers a softer, more immediately inviting expression of Montecillo Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, emphasizing finesse and accessibility without losing its mountain soul. Made from 40-year-old, high-density vines planted on the steep, volcanic slopes of Moon Mountain. The rocky soils and dry-farmed, organic viticulture result in naturally low yields and deeply concentrated fruit, farmed by Chuy Ordaz, whose 50+ years of experience define this historic site.
