Collazzi - Liberta Toscana IGT 2018
“Liberta” is a blend of 55% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 15% Cabernet Franc. The wine, named Libertà, draws its inspiration from a gift bestowed by the city of Florence upon eight Florentine families, including the then-owners of the I Collazzi Estate. These families fought courageously in 1376 for the liberation of the city. Libertà achieves a harmonious balance, showcasing the soft tannins of Merlot, the spicy elegance of Cabernet Sauvignon, and the aromatic complexity of Cabernet Franc.
The Collazzi Estate's vineyards, located in the municipality of Impruneta (Florence), boast clayey-calcareous soil rich in fossils and excellent drainage. With an average vineyard age of 20 years, the microclimate is warmer and drier than the surrounding areas. The property, positioned in a natural amphitheater with optimal south-west exposure, receives abundant sunshine and experiences mild daytime temperatures. These conditions ensure a prolonged and consistent ripening of the grapes year after year.
The vinification, ageing, and refinement processes involve a manual harvest with the vineyards situated within a 400-meters of the cellar. Harvested parcels and grape varieties undergo separate vinification, with careful selection on a sorting table. Alcoholic fermentation occurs at a controlled temperature of about 25°C in stainless steel, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine matures for 12 months in barrels and tanks, with an additional 6 months in bottles.
Libertà is an intense and lively ruby color. The perfumes are ripe and with a complex fruit profile. In the mouth, the wine jumps out with sweet tannins, and is balanced. A soft, round wine with blackberries, chocolate and some blueberries. It’s full bodied, round and very succulent and juicy.
