Groseilles is a rare 1er cru to see on a label. One of the smaller 1er Crus in the village (1ha 33a 86ca) it is just under Fuees on the north side of the village. Only 7 of the village's 24 are smaller.
The 18ha domaine is comprised of mostly premier and grand crus (7 Grand Crus and 11 premier crus including 3 monopoles). Based in Volnay the wines from this address fittingly offer some of the purest expressions of Pinot Noir in Burgundy.
The cellar here is one of the most majestic and serene and though recently constructed, it conveys the proper sense of history appropriate to a Domaine dating back to 1100. And though the Domaine is historic it embraces modernity via upgrades that were initiated soon after Patrick Landanger acquired the property. Like gravity flow based winemaking philosophy (exploiting the slope of their land in another way), optical sorting machine, even a proprietary barrel topper that helps maintain a full barrel therefore decreasing the amount of oxygen the wines are exposed to before bottling. Patrick's son, Benoit has carried on with those techniques with successful experiments with elevage in amphora, and a conversion to biodynamics. All help them maintain the transparent nature of the Domaine's wines

Burghound
This is also aromatically perfumed with better layering to the spicier aromas of mostly red cherry and rose petal. There is markedly more refinement to the seductively, even generously, textured medium weight flavors that also exude a subtle bead of minerality on the impressively long, balanced and more complex finale. This is excellent and is a wine that could be approached young but reward a decade plus of cellaring.
