One of the most rewarding aspects of our work is uncovering hidden gems—wines from vineyards adjacent to great vineyards, crafted by producers who know exactly how to let the terroir shine. The Domaine de Lambrays Morey-Saint-Denis is a perfect example: a village level wine from a vineyard located above the monopole Grand Cru Clos de Tart, and Clos de Lambrays and made by a winemaker with deep roots in the region. It delivers the kind of nuance and depth we love to share within our community of wine lovers. Wines like this—and others in our collection such as Bruno Clair’s Véroilles (above Bonnes-Mares) and Champs Perdrix (above La Tâche). Plus Lignier-Michelot’s En la Rue de Vergy one of the parcels that this wine is made from—make the hunt worthwhile.
Under the guidance of Jacques Devauges—who joined the Domaine de Lambrays in 2019 after leading Clos de Tart—Domaine des Lambrays has undergone a quiet transformation. With a new gravity-flow winery and custom wooden vats, Devauges has refined the estate’s approach to express the character of its vineyards with greater clarity and precision.
The 2022 vintage marks a milestone as well: it’s the first certified organic release (ECOCERT) after three years of conversion, and the first to be fully vinified in the new facility. For the Morey-Saint-Denis bottling, fruit from two parcels in the slopes above Clos de Tart, En la Rue de Vergy and above Clos de Lambrays, Les Larrets was fully de-stemmed and fermented over three weeks, then aged for 17 months in 20% new oak. The site’s limestone soils and cooler microclimate lend the wine its lifted aromatics and graceful structure—an elegant expression of a village known more for its silky textures.
We take pride in spotlighting wines like these—quiet standouts that speak volumes to those who share our passion for Burgundy. It’s what keeps us energized, vintage after vintage.
Wine Spectator: 90 Points
This rich red offers cherry, boysenberry, incense and vanilla aromas and flavors. Supple, yet with a firm backbone, this is balanced and lingers on the spicy, mineral-tinged finish. Drink now through 2037. 160 cases imported.
Burghound: 89-91 Points
Very pretty liqueur-like aromas include those of various red berries and soft spice and earth elements. The delicious middleweight flavors possess a succulent mouthfeel while exhibiting solid depth and persistence on the lightly stony, youthfully austere and balanced finale. Worth considering.
