"These are great Macons, not small Meursaults." Dominique Lafon told us as he drew a wine thief out of a Chardonnay filled barrel in his cellars a few years ago. He is referring to the wines he makes and bottles under "Les Heriteres du Comte Lafon." Dominique believed that with this label he could make interesting, beautiful wines in the Macon. Seeing the potential in the area, he searched for and found old vine Chardonnay planted in high altitude vineyards. Head winemaker Caroline Gon then takes the fruit and oversees their transformation into 'laser pure' Chardonnay. The Viré-Clessé is such a wine. It was one of our favorites tasting and is one of our favorites of his under this label this vintage. Pure enjoyment.
