Jadot's portion of the Clos de Vougeot is approximately 2ha. It is a narrow contiguous plot that stretches from the bottom of the vineyard to about 3/4 up the slope.
Clos de Vougeot is an imposing and impressive vineyard to see in person. The wall that encircles its 125 acres, and makes it a true clos, was completed in 1336 some 200 years after its founding in the 1100s. Two massive structures, Château du Clos de Vougeot, and Chateau de la Tour look tiny when viewed from the opposite sides of the vineyard. Clos Vougeot’s size is a detriment some would say but, with the winemaking bar being constantly raised, we believe this Grand Cru, the largest in the Cote de Nuits, can be a good source of value. Of course, if it’s here, it is a fine example.
James Suckling: 93 Points
Aromas of smoke, leather and hints of asphalt and dark berries, following through to a full body, chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Shows well balanced tannin tension. Tasted before bottling.
Wine Spectator: 93 Points
Well-marked by toasty oak, this red's black cherry and plum flavors are buried today, but should shine through in time. Broad-shouldered and dense, with dusty tannins.
Wine Advocate: 92 Points
Tasted from bottle, the 2017 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot) opens in the glass with an attractive bouquet of berry fruit, plums, orange rind and coniferous forest floor, framed by a deft application of new oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and enveloping, its succulent core of fruit framed by melting tannins. From barrel, I faulted this wine for being excessively open-knit, but while it certainly is unusually supple and giving by the standards of this cuvée, there's more depth than I perceived last year: what's more, and critically, this is simply immensely pleasurable to drink. Vinous Media: 90-92 Points
The 2017 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru was showing some reduction on the nose when tasted from barrel, making it difficult to read. The masculine palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin and quite firm in the mouth. I would be seeking more finesse and nuance, especially toward the sinewy finish, once this is in bottle. (NM)
Burghound: 90-93 Points
A mildly toasty and markedly floral nose speaks of spiced plum, lavender, violet and red cherry. The solidly concentrated and generously proportioned medium-bodied flavors brim with sappy dry extract that also buffers the moderately firm tannins on the powerful and grippy finish that exudes a hint of bitter chocolate. Patience is once again strongly advised
