Terry has a knack for opening young minds to the hidden gems of the wine world, and it was over a bottle of ‘DD’ that he introduced the crew to the magic of Jura’s reds. Stéphane Tissot crafted this cuvée as a tribute to his father, André (“DD”), recalling an era when Jura reds were blends of the region’s three native grapes. True to that tradition, ‘DD’ marries Poulsard, Trousseau, and Pinot Noir, undergoing an extended, gentle maceration that lends a surprising depth to its light frame. Its joyful fruit—bright cherry, raspberry, and crunchy plum—is layered over a ferrous, ozone-like minerality that makes it both refreshing and complex.
Stéphane Tissot took over his family’s domaine nearly two decades ago, transforming it into one of Jura’s most exciting estates. Under his watch, all 50 hectares are now farmed biodynamically, emphasizing vineyard expression over intervention in the cellar. Known for his restless innovation, Tissot pushes the limits of what Jura can produce, from Burgundian-quality Chardonnays to the region’s signature wines. His curiosity has led to a dazzling array of cuvées, each a testament to the region’s extraordinary potential. This is one of our new favorite discoveries.
Wine Advocate: 93 Points
For Stéphane Tissot, 2023 was a very good year for reds. The wines are fruity and clean, delicate and crisp in a style he compared with 2016, even if the growing season was considerably warmer. The 2023 DD, a blend of terroirs, the equivalent in red to his white Patchwork, also blends the three red grapes: Trousseau, Pinot Noir and Poulsard. It is perfumed and attractive, with a distinct note of bitter almonds that makes it very attractive and made me go back to the glass over and over again to smell the wine. It is easy and pleasant, fine-boned, elegant, fresh and lovely, with contained ripeness and 13% alcohol, and it's very pleasant to drink. 33,000 bottles produced.
