These are Cabernets from one of the most compelling voices in the region: winemaker Julien Fayard. With experience at some of France’s greatest estates—Château Lafite-Rothschild and Smith Haut Lafitte—as well as Quintessa in Napa, Fayard brings both pedigree and perspective. His work at Purlieu reflects the same sensibilities that made these wines so popular in prior vintages: powerful wines with precision, site specificity, and restraint.
The name Purlieu, meaning “the edge of the forest,” is more than poetic—it points to the winery’s physical and stylistic place on the edge of Napa Valley, in the now-recognized Coombsville AVA. This cooler subzone benefits from its proximity to the San Pablo Bay, with temperatures often 10 degrees cooler than St. Helena, just a few miles away. That extended growing season builds nuance, structure, and aromatic complexity in the fruit—an edge Julien skillfully turns into elegance in the glass.
Purlieu is one of the most exciting names in Napa, and Coombsville is coming into its own as a world-class terroir for Cabernet Sauvignon. We’re thrilled to have these wines back on our shelves.
