The 2017 Bodegas Pujanza “Norte” comes from their single vineyard, Norte, a striking plot perched at 720 meters, which the winery’s website says is likely the highest vineyard in the Rioja DOCa. Exposed to persistent northern winds and set atop limestone bedrock just half a meter beneath the surface, the site gives rise to a wine of vivid energy and concentration. Even in 2017, a vintage marked by early ripeness and dry conditions, Norte retains its hallmark vitality. Fermented in stainless steel and aged for 16 months in French oak, the wine is powerful but balanced.
