Earlier this week, we tasted the wine ourselves and can confirm that it delivers the depth expected of a Brunello but at an exceptional value rarely found in the category.
Terre di Montalcino is a project from the Siro Pacenti estate, designed to showcase the pure pleasure of drinking Brunello di Montalcino in a more approachable style. The wine is sourced from the younger vines—15 years and under—planted in the Pacenti family’s historic vineyards of Pelagrilli and Piancornello, sites that also yield the estate’s acclaimed Brunello. These vineyards, first planted in the 1960s and sustained through sélection massale, provide fruit that balances freshness and structure, reflecting both the tradition and vitality of Montalcino.
In the cellar, like with the Siro Pacenti wines, precision remains a priority: hand-harvested grapes undergo multiple levels of sorting, followed by a slow, cool fermentation in steel. The wine is then aged for 24 months in a mix of French oak barriques and concrete before resting an additional 18 months in bottle. The result is a 100% Sangiovese Brunello that carries the depth of something greater than the price point suggests but, with more immediate accessibility. First produced in 2018 (originally sold only in Italy), this marks the debut vintage available in the U.S.
