With all of the buzz circling around Domaine Vincent Dancer you might be surprised to discover that the Domaine is relatively young. Vincent only formed the Domaine in 1996. You see, despite owning vines in Chassagne-Montrachet for years, Vincent is really Alsatian. These vines of his family were historically rented out to relatives. However, on the advice of his father, Vincent spent some time in Burgundy and was intrigued enough to set up shop establishing his own Domaine. Always one to work in his own way, Vincent was an early adopter of organic viticulture. He was the first certified as such in Chassagne-Montrachet.
Vincent became well known for his whites. Makes sense. He is based in Chassagne-Montrachet. Despite what many people say, Chassagne is still defined by and known as white wine territory. While the whites are excellent and worthy of dedicated attention, the other wines of the Domaine are regretfully overlooked. Fortunately, they are excellent values and these wines are like other producers whose wines of the opposite color are real gems.
Just think of Comte Lafon's reds, or Dujac's whites. These are exceptional wines that seem to be overlooked. In cases like this it creates an opportunity for value.
Vincent's Pommard "Perrieres" is one such wine. If you've ever been to Burgundy and are heading south on the D974 just outside of Beaune (near the roundabout) you find yourself between the excellent 1er Cru of Pommard, Les Petits Epenots on the west and the village Perrieres to the east. Vincent destems this wine all the way after a hand harvest. In the winery, fermentations begin naturally, and there's no fining or filtering.
