At our last visit to the Domaine Chisa was generous enough to open a wide array of library vintages and extend an offer to us out of her cellar at the Domaine. We sampled through a half doezen wines between 5-8 years old that she felt were showing particularly well. Two stood out to us, the 2018 "Aux Grands Liards" and the 2017 1er Cru "Aux Vergelesses." The Aux Grands Liards had a freshness that brilliantly strays from the stereotype of the 2018 vintage. Meanwhile the 2017 Aux Vergelesses showed a robust structure that danced gorgeously with its purity of fruit. Both are just moving in to their drinking windows and should provide you with a broad range to continue enjoying them.
This Pinot Noir comes from a 1.6-hectare parcel situated below the 1er Cru Les Lavières, where red clay and gravel over limestone shape its character. The vineyard, organically farmed (though not certified), includes vines planted as far back as 1939, lending depth and complexity. Vinified with whole clusters, it undergoes a cool maceration before fermenting with ambient yeasts, incorporating gentle pump-overs and foot punch-downs. Aged for 12–18 months in barrels, with minimal new oak (0–20%), the result is a wine that balances structure with purity, showcasing the terroir’s finesse and the vitality of old-vine fruit.
