J. & H. Selbach is one of the Mosel’s most historically grounded estates, with family roots in the wine trade dating back to 1600. Today, Johannes Selbach, his wife Barbara, and son (als0) Sebastian steward 24 hectares of steep, slate-rich vineyards, many planted to ungrafted vines in some of the Mosel’s most prestigious sites. Their philosophy is quietly traditional: organic and sustainable farming, spontaneous fermentations, no fining, and élevage split between old oak fuder and stainless steel. The goal is not to chase sweetness or dryness, but to allow each vintage to find its natural equilibrium.
Sourced primarily from the steep, blue Devonian slate soils of Zeltinger Himmelreich, with a portion from Bernkastel, this Riesling is fermented with native yeasts and raised in a mix of old fuder and stainless steel. Labeled feinherb, it sits just off-dry, offering a delicate interplay of citrus, stone fruit, slate, and gentle herbal notes. The slight residual sugar is perfectly balanced by bright acidity and mineral tension, making the wine feel nearly dry while enhancing texture and length. It is a classic Mosel expression—light on its feet, deeply expressive, and effortlessly precise.
