Rosé wines rarely hit like this one does. "Premium" rosé seems largely to be a product of marketing, thick glass bottles and unabashed markups. Chateau Galoupet is different. It is a wine that transcends the boundaries of rosé wines belonging instead to the fine wine category. This wine is that complete.
Chateau Galoupe stands out as one of the select Cru Classés in the beautiful region of Provence. Cru Classés was stablished by the leading producers of the Cotes de Provence in 1895. Galoupet boasts a sprawling estate that champions diversity totaling 77 hectares of preserved woodlands and 69 hectares of meticulously tended vineyards. The entirety of their agricultural and winemaking practices adheres to organic principles and is on the verge of attaining official certification.
The wine produced here is an electric complex blend of 58% Grenache, 12% Tibouren, 11% Syrah, 11% Rolle, 6% Cinsault, and 2% Semillon. Employing a combination of stainless steel tanks and 600L French oak barrels for the vinification process, with approximately 30% in the latter, two-thirds of which are new barrels. The resulting wine is of a rich texture on the palate, exuding delectable nuances of peach and brioche, intertwined with subtle hints of fennel and lavender. Yet it remains vibrant and fresh. It would be perfect for your Thanksgiving table.
Wine Advocate: 91 Points
A blend of 58% Grenache, 12% Tibouren, 11% Syrah, 11% Rolle, 6% Cinsault and 2% Sémillon, the 2022 Cotes de Provence Rose was matured 30% in 600-liter French oak barrels (62% new and 38% one-year-old) and left on the lees for four to five months. Fresh and gently oaky, the bouquet is refined and complex with aromas of pear, peach, red berries, spices, grapefruit, menthol, iodine and red berries. Juicy and fresh, the wine is perfectly balanced, sappy and textured on the palate, with a long, very fresh finish. It needs one or two years in bottle, but you can already see its potential.
