This 0.90-hectare parcel of Les Cazetiers sits alongside Clos Saint-Jacques at 325 meters, rooted in rocky, marl-rich soils layered with limestone and white terres blanches at the top of the slope. Planted between 1958 and 1998 and farmed organically, the vines ripen slightly later here despite being further away from the Combe de Lavaux's cooling influence, lending added nuance and tension. Vinified with partial whole clusters and aged 18–20 months in barrel, this is a structured, mineral Pinot—long regarded by Bruno Clair as his preferred site over Clos Saint-Jacques.
Vinous Media: 93-95 Points
The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru is a worthy follow-up to the 2022. It has a wonderful bouquet with immense purity and charm, quite floral in style and very complex. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins, wonderful symmetry and a precise and persistent finish. This is a fantastic Gevrey Premier Cru.
Burghound: 92-94 Points
There are ample amounts of spice, floral and sauvage characters suffusing the aromas of both red and dark currant. The succulent and delicious medium-bodied flavors possess more size and weight if not the same refinement on the powerful, equally firm and impressively long finale that is already strikingly complex. One to consider.
Wine Advocate: 92-94 Points
Offering up notes of raspberries, vine smoke and orange zest, the 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers is medium to full-bodied, layered and textural, with a lively core of sweet, creamy fruit underpinned by sweet, powdery tannins and lively acids.
