Les Vaudenelles is a high-elevation Marsannay site, rising above an old limestone quarry at 300–320 meters. The gently sloped, east-southeast exposure promotes balance and freshness. The Clair family farms 1.6 hectares of mature vines planted between 1969 and 1976, lending structure and depth to the wines.
James Suckling: 92-93 Points
Plenty of wet earth, raw meat and red berry fruit are matched by bright, mineral acidity on the sleek, medium-bodied palate. The elegant tannins drive the long finish.
Burghound: 89-91 Points
Super-fresh aromas of the essence of red berries, spice and a floral top note lead to vibrant and precise lighter weight flavors that conclude in a lightly mineral-inflected and youthfully austere finale that possesses a lovely sense of balance. Solid quality here in a lighter (but not dilute) package.
Wine Advocate: 89-91 Points
Aromas of dark berries, cherries and orange zest introduce the 2023 Marsannay Les Vaudenelles, a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and concentrated wine with lively acids and sweet, powdery tannins.
Vinous Media: 86-88 Points
The 2023 Marsannay Les Vaudenelles has a punchy nose with black cherries and boysenberry fruit. The palate is a little hard on the entry, with crisp, slightly edgy tannins and a little austerity on the finish that should fill out during élevage. Fine.
