Domaine Joseph Voillot, a venerable sixth-generation estate, boasts holdings in Volnay. The managing director, Jean Pierre Charlot, who is Joseph Voillot's son-in-law, assumed the role following Joseph's retirement in 1995 after working closely with him since 1980.
Prior to his tenure at the estate, Jean Pierre served as a professor at the Lycée Viticole in Beaune, where he mentored several of Burgundy's up-and-coming talents. Known for his meticulous nature, Jean Pierre thrives in navigating challenging vintages where meticulous vineyard work, selective harvesting, and precise cellar practices are paramount.
The domaine's wines exemplify true "vins de terroir," a testament to their origin and craftsmanship, with a discerning use of new oak that doesn’t exceed 15%. Each wine, across all tiers, expresses its unique terroir by being vinified the same way, always without stems. This Volnay is a classic example of the village. Nine parcels in total make up the blend. The average age of the vines planted in these parcels is 41 years old with the 2021 vintage.
