Just a few days ago we had the pleasure of tasting the wines of Domaine Pierre & Jean-Baptiste Lebreuil. From that impressive lineup we sampled many delicious wines but, one that really caught our eye was the village level Savigny-les-Beaune, the village where the Domaine is based. It was an incredible combination of fresh red fruits, elegance and concentration at an exceptional price.
Three generations—Paul, Pierre, and now Jean-Baptiste—have succeeded each other at Domaine Pierre et Jean-Baptiste LEBREUIL since 1935. Initially, Paul owned a few vineyard plots, primarily selling grapes in bulk to merchants, while also engaging in mixed farming. In 1958, Pierre, his son, left school to join the family business, acquiring viticulture and oenology skills. With Pierre's dedication, the estate expanded, acquiring more land and bottling equipment, significantly increasing bottled wine sales across France and Europe. In 1999, Jean-Baptiste, armed with a wine trade diploma and diverse international experiences, joined his parents. This culminated in the company's formal establishment in 2001, operating 10.5 hectares across Savigny-les-Beaune and Aloxe-Corton. By 2007 the estate's vineyard holdings grew to 13 hectares, reflecting their commitment to healthy and natural grapes that are produced in the purest Burgundian tradition with respect for the terroir, the grape variety and the appellation.
This village bottling combines 5 plots situated between 230 and 300 meters altitude, with 80% nestled among the 1er cru slopes below the village and the remainder on higher, less earthy soils. This is a real deal village red Burgundy that deserves your attention.
