A .38ha of vines planted in 1974.
On the southern edge of Volnay on the top portion of the slope is where Clos des Chênes' approximately 15ha are located. Considered one of the best of Volnay's top Premier Crus. Lafon's parcel overlooks Caillerets on the lower portion of the vineyard, a part that many consider to produce a more complete wine than those located on the top of the slope.

Here too the nose is exceptionally pretty with more layering to the array of the essence of red cherry, currant and broader range of spice elements. The sleek and delineated flavors are not especially dense but they do offer both a lovely texture as well as evident power on the compact, austere and quite serious finish that flashes excellent length. This is clearly built-to-age and a wine that's going to need it.

The 2022 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes is supple and perfumed, bursting with aromas of sweet red berries, plums and peonies, followed by a medium-bodied, satiny and charming palate.
Vinous Media: 89-91 Points
The 2022 Volnay Clos des Chênes 1er Cru is fully de-stemmed and comprises 6 barrels. It has an intense nose with black cherry and blueberry fruit, becoming quite floral in style. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. There’s plenty of black fruit laced with licorice from the warm growing season. A bit of heat on the back palate? I'll be prudent for now.
