Bastien Gautheron represents the inaugural chapter of Maison Gautheron d’Anost, a blossoming estate nestled amidst the picturesque landscapes of Meursault. Maison Gautheron d’Anost emerges as a bastion of tradition and ingenuity within the esteemed Burgundy wine region. Situated across a tiny 0.75 hectares of vineyard holdings this is a micro domaine in every sense.
Bastien honed his skills at Olivier Leflaive in Puligny-Montrachet. With an unwavering commitment to sustainability, he has embraced organic farming practices since 2017, earning certification (AB) for their domaine holdings. Beginning with careful hand harvesting, the red grapes of Maison Gautheron d’Anost undergo ambient yeast fermentation and maceration in small stainless steel tanks (15 Hl). Bastien opts for brief macerations and fermentations to prevent over-extraction. Throughout the fermentation process, gentle pump-overs and a few punch-downs ensure optimal extraction and balance. Bastien epitomizes the emerging generation of vignerons dedicated to translating the intrinsic connection between terroir and vineyard through a hands-off approach to winemaking.
Barrel aging is paramount, with the oldest dating back to 2014. While white wines are partially aged in large 350L wooden vats, reds exclusively mature in barriques, with a subtle presence of new oak reserved for the flagship wines, never exceeding 30%. The result is wines boasting delicate fruit, elevated by nuanced toastiness, and harmoniously layered with captivating aging potential.
Nestled alongside the stone wall, just shy of the 1er Cru clos de la Perriere, lies the prestigious Clos du Chapitre. Formerly under the ownership of the cathedral chapter of Langres, its name bears homage to its ecclesiastical origins. Wines from this vineyard are marked with a candid expression and abundant minerality. With its deep hue and abundant black fruit aromas, this wine still doesn't overwhelm. Tasting reveals a hint of acidity and fruits that linger in the finish. Thanks to its fresh, nuanced aroma and straightforward nature, this wine is both refreshing and delightfully light on the palate.
