James Suckling: 95 Points
An amazing nebbiolo with complex aromas of restrained Parma violets, blood oranges, red cherries and a hint of licorice. Medium-bodied, chewy and crisp, with a polished palate, great balance and savory depth. Drink now.

The 2023 Barbera D'Alba Superiore Carra was tasted as a preview and will be released in May of 2025. Bottled the day before tasting, during the first week of March 2025, it was aged in large casks. The nose is super expressive and fresh, with ripe, pure aromas of crushed lavender, fresh crunchy blackberries, pretty cedar, and a refreshing, crunchy fruit character, all complemented by a light salty touch. The natural sweetness of the wine highlights the purity of the fruit, without masking anything. A gorgeous Barbera all around, don’t let the Superiore designation mislead you into thinking this wine lacks freshness. It should come as no surprise that Elena and Luca are doing wonderful things with this wine, given their track record with Barbera performing at the highest levels. Drink over the next 10 years. (AF)

The 2023 Nebbiolo d’Alba San Sebastiano hails from older vines at Bricco Lago and saw the longer aging required by the appellation. From cask, it is a gorgeous and promising wine. Dark varietal fruit, graphite, lavender, sage and spice soar from the glass. Bright acids and veins of tannin shape this vibrant, wonderfully salivating Nebbiolo. I can’t wait to taste it from bottle. (AG)
