Although Anne Gros and Jean-Paul Tollot each oversee their own esteemed Domaines in Burgundy, namely Domaine Anne Gros and Domaine Tollot-Beaut, they have joined forces in the southern reaches of France to craft wines from the Minervois region.
What inspired this collaborative venture? Anne and Jean-Paul's passion was ignited by their immediate enchantment with the vineyards. They were captivated by the presence of limestone and the elevated position of the vineyards within the Minervois region. Situated in the sub-district of Le Causse in the northeastern part of Minervois, these vineyards are renowned for these distinct qualities. Here, they unearth finesse and precision in winemaking, in stark contrast to the region's reputation for producing robust and powerful red wines.
Their creation, known as Les Carretals, is a testament to the estate's dedication to excellence. Sourced from a 1.07-hectare vineyard planted in 1909, this wine is a stunning expression of old-vine Carignan and Grenache. The terroir, a mix of clay and limestone, imparts remarkable structure and complexity, while traditional Burgundian vinification techniques, including full destemming and aging in oak barrels, enhance its finesse and depth. Les Carretals exudes elegance, length, and energy, qualities that make it truly worth the anticipation. Its deep, dark hue hints at the intensity within, and on the palate, it unfolds with a refined balance of power and grace.
