Pommard Roots
The Bourgogne Côte d’Or Rouge captures this philosophy beautifully. Sourced from four parcels in Pommard below the D974, this 100% Pinot Noir grows in alluvial clay-limestone soils. Fermented in 500L used barrels and aged 11 months in large, neutral oak, it emphasizes purity of fruit and supple texture over overt oak influence. It is energetic and lifted, with the structure and detail that elevate it well beyond its appellation.
A New Chapter in a Burgundian Legacy
Founded in 2010 by Louis Vallet, Domaine Charodon represents both a continuation and an evolution of a deeply rooted Burgundian family story. Though the Vallet family is long established in Gevrey-Chambertin, Louis chose to chart his own course just outside Beaune in Montagny-lès-Beaune. With guidance from leading advocates of organic and biodynamic farming and experience gained both in Burgundy and abroad, he built Charodon from a modest 1,200 bottles in its first vintage to a dynamic, growing estate. All vineyards are leased on long-term contracts and farmed organically, with Louis personally overseeing harvest and vinification. His approach in the cellar is restrained and thoughtful, indigenous yeast fermentations, measured use of French oak, and extended aging, producing wines that show immediate charm yet reward patience with added layers of complexity over time.
