The Hillsides Building a Legacy
Founded in the 1970s, the Niero family estate has long been recognized for producing expressive, terroir-driven wines in the Northern Rhône. Since 2004, third-generation winemaker Rémi Niero has expanded the domaine to 9 hectares across Condrieu, Côte-Rôtie, Saint-Joseph, and Crozes-Hermitage. The estate’s vineyards grow on brittle primary rock—gneiss, schist, and granite—held by low walls and narrow terraces carved into steep slopes. Combined with a continental climate moderated by Mediterranean influence, these soils provide ideal conditions and their wines show their soil's nuances.
A Classic Gateway to Niero & Rhône Syrah
The 2023 Syrah Agathes, comes from clay-limestone soils and 20-year-old vines. After destemming, the Syrah sees a long maceration in temperature-controlled concrete tanks followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine offers a vivid Northern Rhône profile—red and black fruits, black pepper, and violet on the nose; a fleshy yet refined palate framed by elegant peppery lift; and a fresh, mouthwatering finish. Twelve months of élevage in oak bring polish without overshadowing the fruit.
